    Description

Elgin 82 G.M. Wheeler 18 Size 55mm Gold Filled Double Hunter Pocket Watch 1884.  This antique Elgin G.M. Wheeler grade 82, class 4, Model 3, 13 jewel, 18 size pocket watch has a gold filled case measuring approximately 55mm in diameter.  Both the front and back covers are completely hand engraved with guilloche, filigree, foliage and flowers.  The front cover also has a monogram that appears to be "IR".  The case is in overall great condition for it's age but the front hinge cover will not secure shut.  The white enamel dial has black Roman numerals, blue hands, a sunk seconds register and is marked "Elgin Nat'l Watch Co.".  The dial has a couple hairlines, discoloration in the seconds register and very light aging, as pictured.  Missing seconds hand.  No crystal.  The front inside case is stamped "2003752".  The back inside case is stamped with a lion and "Warranted 2003752".  The inside dust cover is stamped with a crown and "Guaranteed 20 Years 2003752".  The movement is stamped "G.M. Wheeler - 1489167 - Elgin, Ill.".  All screws and jewels appear to be in good condition.  Stem wind, lever set.  This watch will run but only for a few minutes and needs to be serviced.  Being sold as is for parts/repair.  No guarantee of future performance.  This antique piece needs a little work but is in overall good condition for it's age.  ca. 1884
